question 3
How do you use new media technologies?
Final cut
Final cut was a crucial tool and skill we needed to master in order for our group to edit and produce a trailer for our media group, final cut gave us multiple effects and other cutting tools in order to make our trailer appear more scary therefore being more effective on the audience. The effects we used most while using final cut was the colour correction tool this was due to the fact a lot of our scenes were too bright - and in our project we need the killer to remain unknown throughout the trailer. Other effects we used to our advantage was the use of preset effects that allowed use to create a CCTV scene to add different angles and scenes into our trailer. We also used picmonkey in order to create our poster for our movie trailer - we used picmonkey to darken the the picture in order to create an uneasy feeling when viewing the poster. We also darkened it in order to follow the conventions set by other trailers. Picmonkey also allowed us to use fonts relevant to our subject trailer since we based our trailer around a school we tried to use a school font to keep the theme running throughout.
Weebly
This piece of software allowed our group to create our website, this technology gave our group a platform to share our ideas and what we created in final cut - we also used the website to show our methods and research we carried out through out the year. Weebly allowed us to create a professional looking website for free, that we can add text boxes and videos explaining what we have done. The website itself was very simple and easy to use - many of the tools found on the website are very self explanatory and don't need hours of work in order to master and understand how to use them. There are a range of themes available when you first create your website, we mainly choose the darker ones in order to fit the genre of our initial trailer. Weebly made it very easy to integrate other forms of media into our website examples of these were YouTube, Prezi and uploading pictures to the website in order to show our understanding of different sections of the media projects we were studying.
Clip converter
We mainly used clip converter as a tool to download tracks and videos from YouTube, an example of our group using this would be to find the background music, we used this tool to download the track as an MP3 then put it into the background- we used this website multiple times in order to get backing music and to download similar trailers to show differences.
Photoshop
We used photoshop in order to create our poster - using photoshop made it look more professional and cleaner looking than other software we had available to us. We mainly used this piece pf software to make the layers darker in order to not reveal the killer in the poster. We also used photoshop to add the titles and credits of the trailer. Lastly, we used photoshop to add effects such as blood and remove blemishes on those in the photos.

YouTube
YouTube was a key part in creating and sharing our media project. We used YouTube to upload our research, final trailer and to share the video of the key skills we learnt while using final cut. YouTube also gave us the ability to look up similar horror trailers/scenes in order to compare them and show what we based our trailer off of. Weebly also allows youtube to be easily placed upon the website making it easier to share our ideas with our target audience.

Prezi
Prezi gave our group the ability to share our ideas and the journey to our final trailer in a professional, yet simple manner. Again weebly allowed us to directly upload it simply onto the website making really easy to share our ideas through the website with little work. Prezi allowed us to create mind maps with which we could layout all our ideas without losing them.
Camera
We used canon DSLR cameras in order to film the scenes in our trailer. We used these cameras since they easy to operate, maintain a good quality when filming and don't use up much space when filming - this made it easy to manage our clips later on when editing as we only needed 2 memory cards at most.
QuickTime player
We used QuickTime player multiple times when creating our project. The first time we used QuickTime player was to screencast the audience reactions to our trailer - what bits they liked and what needed to be improved. Our group also used QuickTime in order to screencast what skills we had picked up while using Final Cut, including what effects we used and how to import clips.
