Content Analysis
For reference in our trailer we looked at multiple horror trailers in order to work out on average how many shots were used in the creation of a trailer. Our group worked out on average that on average in our trailer we will need 64 shots lasting a total of 1.4 seconds a shot in order to follow the content set out by others.
The sinister 2 trailer is 2 minutes 30 seconds long - this means the trailer is 150 seconds long when we divide the time by the shots it means the trailer has 1.1 seconds a shots. 150/138 = 1.1 per shot change. Sinister 2 used 138 shots in order to create tension without the trailer, as the trailer got further through the time of each shot decreased, doing this kept the viewer engaged and stopped them losing concentration on the trailer. Compared against the other trailers we reviewed Sinister 2 had the highest amount of shots - with the least amount of time for each shot. |
For our trailer we needed 1.4 seconds a shot. Our trailer compared to Insidious 3 has more seconds a shot. This means the trailer keeps the audience engaged because there is lots happening when it flashes between shots. We can use this theory in our trailer because Insidious 3 is a successful well known horror.
Insidious 3 on average has 2.1 seconds a shot which is more compared to other horror trailers. 125/58= 2.1 seconds a shot on average. Insidious 3 used 125 shots in order to keep the audience on the edge of their seat and to add more of an edgy atmosphere. Insidious 3 had less shots when compared to The Visit, Sinister and Don't Breathe. Due to the lack of shots the trailer was of a slower pace. |
had had Don't breathe trailer runs for 1 minute 40 seconds . To work out the shots per second we needed to count the amount of different shots in the trailer (108 shots). We they need to then work out how many seconds the trailer is 1 minute 40 seconds long, the total run time of the trailer is 107 seconds. 107/108 = 1 second shots. This meant that the pace of the trailer was incredibly fast compared against the other trailers we looked at in particular 'The Visit' which had 2.2 second shots.
The trailer is slow compared with other with means the trailer shows away less scenes from the film itself - this could be because they don't want to give away the storyline. Due to the low amount of shots the pace of the trailer is slower and can lead to the audience losing interest in the trailer Even though the trailers slow than the rest it still beats the average of 1.4 shots a second that we worked out from the six trailers we looked at. |
The Knock Knock trailer is 2 minutes long - this means the trailer is 120 seconds long when we divide the time by the shots it means the trailer has 1.1 seconds a shots. 120/113 = 1.06 per shot change.
Knock Knock used 113 shots in order to build up the tension throughout without the trailer, as the trailer went on, the shot per second increased. By doing this, it kept the viewer engaged and stopped them from losing concentration on the trailer.
Compared to the other trailers we reviewed Sinister 2 had the highest amount of shots - with the least amount of time for each shot.

The Visit is a horror a film about 2 kids who go and see their grandparents, we looked at the average shots used in the trailer and in the 130 second trailer we saw 58 shots were used with a shot coming up with a average of every 2.2 seconds, this a long time compared to other movie trailers which could show there's not much the trailer wants to give away or maybe there's not as many parts in the movie that are intriguing to the audience. Because of this the pace of the trailer was a lot slower and werent as many jump scenes. Compared to the over trailers The Visit joint lowest shots used all together.
